The Northeast District of the California-Hawaii Elks Association was formed in July 1978 with nine Lodges. Alturas, Susanville, and Quincy Lodges were transferred from the North District, while Auburn, Grass Valley, Nevada City, North Lake Tahoe Sierra, Lake Tahoe, and Calpine Lodges came from the North Central District.
In 1981, the District expanded to ten Lodges with the chartering of Lake Almanor Lodge No. 2626. Shortly thereafter, North Lake Tahoe Sierra Lodge No. 2140 surrendered its charter.
Later, Executive Order 09-131 authorized the merger of Lake Tahoe (CA) Lodge No. 2094 and Minden/Douglas (NV) Lodge No. 2670. The resulting Tahoe/Douglas (NV) Lodge No. 2670 is no longer under the jurisdiction of the California-Hawaii Elks Association or the Northeast District.
Grass Valley Lodge No. 538 merged with Auburn Lodge No. 1691 to form Auburn-Grass Valley Lodge No. 538. The Northeast District currently comprises seven Lodges.
